[1] General

    What is DOOM 3?

DOOM 3 is the next game in a series that started off in December 1993, created by id Software these games were a huge technological mile stone for their time.  id Software is returning back to DOOM after doing the Quake series, and unlike the previous Quake games intend to scare you.

    Who is developing DOOM 3?

id Software, creators of Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, DOOM II, Quake, Quake II and Quake III Arena.  You can find their website here https://www.idsoftware.com/.  With Vicarious Visions handling the Xbox version.

    Who is publishing DOOM 3?

Activision, who also published id Software's Quake II and Quake III Arena games, their website can be found here https://www.activision.com/.

What platforms will DOOM 3 be on, Windows, Linux, Xbox etc?

DOOM 3 is currently for Windows (PC) and Linux. The Mac [direct] port of the game has just been released, it's essentially the same as the PC version. The Mac minimum system and recommended system requirements can be found on the system requirements page. Also, the Xbox Version is done and has hit the shelves, and has new features like Xbox Live! support and Co-Op game mode play, (up to 2 player in Co-op), with levels split into sub sections, adding up to 40 levels compared to the PC's 20 levels (or around there) due to the limited, shared between CPU and GPU 64MB of DDR-SDRAM.

When are we going to get to play!?

DOOM 3 is out now! As are the Linux, Mac, and Xbox version ports.

When will the SDK be released?

The SDK has been released! You can download the DOOM 3 SDK (weighing at 9.63MB) from our download server here.

What about a DOOM 3 demo?

It's out now! You can download the DOOM 3 demo(weighing at 461MB) from Fileshack here, and you can also find the DOOM 3 Mac OS X version SP demo available for downloading (which weighs 463.5MB by the way) at Fileplanet.

What about a DOOM 3 expansion pack?

Yes, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, which is out now in the U.S and is only days away from shipping in other countries! (I.E the UK) (like the Xbox version of DOOM 3), is currently being developed by Nerve Software. As far as we know, this Expansion Pack will feature new areas to explore of the UAC facility, and new characters such as the Vulgar, the Bruisers, the Forgotten, and Hell Hunters, as well as new weapons and items such as the Double Barrel Shotgun a la DOOM II, the Grabber, the Artifact, and Environment suits, as well as four new MP maps, in both hell and ancient civilisation, as well as a new, increased 8 player limit. Also, RoE is no heavier than DOOM 3 hardware system specification demanding wise.

What about DOOM 3's system requirements?

You can find the system requirements of DOOM 3 on the system requirements page.

[2] Single Player

    What is single player like?

id Software are aiming for an intense and terrifying single player experience, quite a lot different to their other games which have mainly just been about blowing things up.  This time they intend to scare you.  The pace of the action has been slowed quite a lot.  But the main point of the game is to bring fear into you.  This is defiantly one of those games that you play in the middle of the night with the lights off.

[3] Multiplayer

    What is multiplayer like?

Multiplayer wise DOOM 3 is a standard multiplayer affair, and is capped at 4 players. Anymore than that and 1) the tension would be ruined and 2) it would kill performance.

    What game modes are there?

Right now, there's only deathmatch, teamdeathmatch, last man standing and tourney multiplayer game modes.  Although id Software have said about doing a multiplayer expansion pack at a later date.

[4] Modifications

What kind of modification support does DOOM 3 have?

There's the modified version of the QE Radiant editor that has shipped with DOOM 3 for map editing and etc(hopefully a modified version of the GTK Radiant Editor for DOOM 3 will be up to our eyes soon), and then there's the DOOM 3 SDK which was just recently released.

[5] Information about this FAQ

    Who wrote this FAQ?

This FAQ was/is created/maintained by Paul Smith (Paul@doom3portal.net) and Westley Merlin (Wester@doom3portal.net).

What can we do with this FAQ (distribution wise)?

At the moment I'd rather not have this FAQ distributed around the net uncontrolled as it's still obviously being worked on, if you want to use it on your web site contact me first on the above e-mail address and we'll see what we can arrange, a nice link over to https://www.doom3portal.net/ will probably be enough.

When was this FAQ last updated?

The last update was made at 01:42 UT (Universal Time) on the 28th of September 2005.
